Program for the Grand Reunion

In 2019, the Gauvin family will celebrate two grand events: (1) the Congrès mondial acadien and (2) the 250th of the arrival of the Gauvins in Acadie! 250 years ago, this year, the Gauvins set foot for the first time in Acadie. Do you realize how lucky we are to have such an important (Gauvin) milestone coincide with a Congrès mondial acadien and to boot, the CMA 2019 is being held in the very same area that served as the gateway to the Gauvins in Acadie!

Let’s not forget that the Gauvins have been in America for more than 350 years now. In fact, a celebration for the 350th wedding anniversary of the Gauvin pioneer, Jean, married to the Parisian orphan Anne Magnan, was held in Quebec City in 2015. During the French regime, the family stayed within the territorial limits of the Saint Lawrence valley. But after the War of the Conquest, in 1769, three great-grand-children of Jean and Anne left Canada (Quebec) with their mother and stepfather, an Acadian refugee, to settle in former Acadie in around the Bend area (Moncton). A few years later, a first cousin arrived in Caraquet and afterwards a distant cousin settled in Saint Basile.
