– The Congrès mondial acadien 2019, in cooperation with the Centre de la francophonie des Amériques (CFA) and the Commission du tourisme acadien du Canada Atlantique (CTACA), presented the show “Belle et Bum célèbre l’Acadie et le Québec” on July 9th in the Parc de la Francophonie of the Festival d’été de Québec (FEQ). The concert featured both Acadian and Québécois artists: Zachary Richard, Radio Radio, Les Hay Babies, Jean François Breau, Menoncle Jason and Gabriel Robichaud represented Acadie, whereas Fred Fortin, Émile Bilodeau, Guylaine Tanguay and David Goudreault represented Québec. Acadian Pierre Guitard and Québécoise Laura Lefebvre delighted the crowd during the first part of the show. All in all, thousands of people gathered for this electrifying performance in the heart of Québec City.

“Once again, our artists represented us well and showcased a vibrant and lively Acadie beyond the Atlantic provinces” said the Chair of the Congrès mondial acadien, Claudette Thériault. “The concert was also a great opportunity to strengthen ties between Acadians and Québécois, as well as a superb occasion for Acadians in Québec to gather and express their pride. Thank you to Festival d’été de Québec and Belle et Bum for this fine showcase.”

Despite heavy rains falling on Québec City a mere hour before the show, the atmosphere was festive for this celebration of la Francophonie, which was not only represented by Acadie and Québec, but also the Americas’ French-speaking world through the participation of delegates from the Parlement francophone des jeunes d’Amérique. As the rain cleared up, Radio Radio opened the show accompanied by young artist Émile Bilodeau; at the show’s halfway point, poet Gabriel Robichaud and author David Goudreault delivered a powerful and inspiring spoken-word performance; and to end the evening, Zachary Richard performed Petitcodiac accompanied by some of the show’s artists, who joined him on stage to bring the concert to a close.

The Congrès mondial acadien 2019 would like to thank the Festival d’été de Québec for their warm welcome and cooperation during this concert, as well as the whole Belle et Bum team for the concept and realization of this open-air recording, which will be broadcast in March 2019 on Télé-Québec. The CMA 2019 would also like to thank its presenting partners, the Centre de la francophonie des Amériques and the Commission du tourisme acadien du Canada atlantique.
