lancement grand evenement 9avril en 01Dieppe, NB, April 9, 2019 – The Congrès mondial acadien 2019, during a talk-show style cocktail hour, unveiled its programming of major events that will take place during the most important Acadian gathering of the year.

August 10: the celebration begins in Abram-Village

Opening day festivities will start at 6 a.m. with a musical breakfast in Borden featuring Monique Poirier, Patricia Richard and Corde à vents, followed by a community fair in Mont-Carmel with Les Paloudes, DOC and Cajun Country Revival. Things then move to Abram-Village for a farmers’ market and a Folk Festival featuring Marcella Richard, Menoncle Jason, the Backyard Devils, Carnaval en Promenade and Enchantement des abeilles, with animation by Ryan Doucette. Finally, aer the official opening ceremony, it’s time for the opening show on the Caisse populaire / Credit Union stage, showcasing an exceptional group of artists: Barachois – who are preparing their big comeback to the stage for this event - The East Pointers, Arthur Comeau, Famille Savoy, Lennie Gallant, the CMA dance troupe, Vishtèn and Les Hay Babies. Suroît and Cajun Country Revival will end the evening with a post-show performance.

August 15: National Acadian Day celebrated in two provinces

In 2019, National Acadian Day will be celebrated in style, both in Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick. Festivities kick off at 10 a.m. with the raising of the Acadian flag and a mass at St. John The Baptist Church in Miscouche. At 11 a.m., a designation ceremony will be held for Moncton’s Notre-Dame de l’Assomption Cathedral, recognized as a national historic site. In Dieppe, participants will gather at Place 1604 to start the celebrations, where they will be able to attend the 15th edition of Accros de la chanson, presented in partnership with the Fédération des jeunes francophones du Nouveau-Brunswick. Caroline Savoie and Thomé Young will then deliver performances to warm up the crowd for the remainder of celebrations. Finally, an official National Acadian Day ceremony will be held before the big Tintamarre presented by Eastlink, which will lead participants to the big show held at Dieppe’s brand new MusiquArt venue, on the UNI Coopération financière stage. This great evening, which promises to be one of the highlights of the Congrès, will feature: Radio Radio, Les Hôtesses d’Hilaire, Comté de Clare, Jeremy Dutcher, Marc à Paul à Jos, Pierre Kwenders, Roddie Romero, Joseph Edgar, Les Hay Babies, Zachary Richard, Vishtèn, Maggie Savoie, Lisa LeBlanc, Edith Butler and the Greater Moncton Girls + Rock. Various hosts will join the show, including Jass-Sainte Bourque. 1755 and Bois Joli will keep the party going well into the night during an aer party.

August 24: a colourful closing ceremony in Shediac

The town of Shediac has the honour to close the sixth edition of the Congrès mondial acadien, starting at 1 p.m. at Pascal-Poirier Park. Vers 2024 is intended to be an activity providing a showcase for the host region of the next edition of the Congrès mondial acadien. The activities will continue at 6 p.m. with an official closing ceremony in front of the giant lobster. Finally, participants will be invited to meet up for the closing show on the site of the Shediac arena, featuring Cayouche, Salebarbes, Patricia Richard, Danny Boudreau, Laurie LeBlanc, Dominique Dupuis, Troiselle, Hert LeBlanc, Marcella Richard, Zachary Richard, Lina Boudreau, Les Jeunes Chanteurs d’Acadie, Izabelle Ouellet and Wilfred LeBouthillier, with hosts Monique Poirier and Luc LeBlanc. Comté de Clare will end the CMA 2019 with a post-show performance.

The Congrès mondial acadien 2019 provides you with a simple and original way to attend various CMA events. A pin will give you access to the sites of the major opening, closing and August 15 celebrations, as well as to Extrême Frontière Space evening shows, from August 17 to August 23, 2019, whose programming will be unveiled on May 30. Pin design was inspired by the works of two artists from our host region, namely Lynn Gaudet (Prince Edward Island) and Ginette Melanson (New Brunswick). Participants will be able to choose the design they like the most and keep it as a souvenir of the CMA 2019. Pins will go on sale on April 10th, on www.cma2019.ca for the cost of $20.
