August 10 to 24, 2019

famille avec drapeau webMoncton, NB, April 28, 2019 – As part of a large family celebration held today in advance of the Congrès mondial acadien, the Town of Shediac announced a new Carrefour, or hub, for family reunions during the CMA 2019.

The Carrefour is a partnership between Shediac and the Congrès mondial acadien. Il will be located in the Shediac Multipurpose Centre and will provide families with services and space for their reunions. It will be available from August 16 to 20.

“The idea behind the Carrefour was to offer families an option to make it easier for them to organize their reunions,” said Shediac mayor Roger Caissie.

On August 16, the Carrefour will be reserved for families expecting fewer than 100 participants.

The chair of the Congrès mondial acadien 2019, Claudette Thériault, said she was delighted with this CMA 2019 initiative. “The day of August 16 will enable smaller families to have a place at the CMA. We ask that they contact us if they would like to use the
Carrefour facilities.”

For those researching their family history, a genealogy fair will be set up at the Centre d’études acadiennes Anselme-Chiasson at the Université de Moncton. It will be held from August 16 to 23, 2019. It will also be possible to do genealogical research at the Acadian Museum of Prince Edward Island in Miscouche, PEI, throughout the CMA.

More than 400 people turned up for the big family celebration held in Shediac this afternoon. With about 30 families in attendance, people from the area were able to inquire about the programming for the different reunions being held this summer and even to register on site. Registration can be done online at any time at

Thirty six families have already registered for the CMA, and the team is sure this event will encourage others to do the same.

“I find it very touching to see that so many Acadian families from our host regions will be holding reunions,” said chair Claudette Thériault. “I hope the Congrès mondial acadien will not only enable a great many people to reconnect with old acquaintances but will also give them an opportunity to make new ones.”

There is still time for families to sign up to hold a reunion during the CMA. Your family does not have to be living in the host region to participate. Some families are making arrangements long distance. However, for reunions to be included in the official print program for the CMA 2019, families must register by May 5, 2019.
